About Our Kayaks

Our kayaks are sit inside recreational kayaks, which are wider than touring kayaks for improved stability. They have webbing on the front and rear to stow your gear.

All kayak rentals include kayak, paddle and life jacket.

Optional add-ons available include: dry bag, small cooler, picnic lunch.

Kelsey Bay

Where the Salmon River meets the Johnstone Straight, Kelsey Bay offers an abundance of history with a public boat ramp that loads into the Western Forest Products log sort, a wharf that served as a ferry dock in the 1970’s and WWII era ships scuttled to serve as a breakwater.

You may see humpback whales, orcas (killer whales), sea lions, otters, ducks, geese and more.

The Kelsey Bay Marina and Wharf can be a hive of marine activity when vessels are resupplying.

A public boat launch is available at the Western Forest Products log sort. You may be lucky enough to see boom boats assembling log rafts for transport.

Pros: Lot’s of historical sights to see, high likelihood of seeing marine wildlife and migratory birds, within cell phone signal range, no portages.

Cons: Windy at times.

Salmon River

Sayward Kayak Rental - Salmon River

Once a lifeline for early settlers of the Sayward Valley, the Salmon River meanders from Highway 19 to Kelsey Bay where it meets the Johnstone Strait.

You may see otters, roosevelt elk, mule deer, black bears, grouse, ducks, geese and more.

Pros: High likelihood of seeing migratory birds, less windy.

Cons: Seasonally lower water levels may require some portages, outside of cell signal range.

Keta Lake

Sayward Kayak Rental - Keta Lake

A 62 acre lake at the top of the the Sayward Canyon

You may see otters, roosevelt elk, mule deer, black bears, grouse, ducks, geese and more.

Pros: Less windy, no portages.

Cons: Outside of cell signal range, lower likelihood of seeing wildlife.
